Guillermo Moreno: What about looking into corruption cases from 2004-2012?

Guillermo Moreno, the president of Alianza Pais political party, in an op-ed feature in Diario Libre remarks that the Public Prosecution Office has not yet reopened the files of infamous corruption cases during Leonel Fernandez’s second and third terms in office. He mentions the cases of Funglode funding and the irregularities that Congress ignored when approving the contracts for public works with Sunland.

Among other cases mentioned:
The investigation into the unofficial payrolls (nominillas) at many public entities for more than RD$1 billion a month.
Malversion of funds for RD$1.5 billion and US$56 million at Indrhi.
Parking at the Palacio de Bellas Artes overpriced by around RD$1 billion.
Dominican Municipal League overpricing for more than RD$1 billion.
Parking at the state university UASD. Each parking lot cost RD$800,000.
Lack of transparency regarding financial operations for more than RD$35 billion for the construction of lines 1 and 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro.
Nagua Malecón where there was said to be malversion of funds for more than RD$500 million.

Moreno was National District prosecutor during the government of Leonel Fernandez. He suggests that the investigations be named Operation Sea Lion, making a play on the former President’s name, and on the tendency of giving oceanic names to cases under investigation by the new prosecution team.
