
Media in the US state of Georgia give an update on the activities of nominated US Ambassador Calvin Smyre. His arrival to the Domincian Republic could be imminent. Smyre recently retired after nearly 50 years in the Georgia state legislature. Smyre was the longest serving member of the Georgia General Assembly. He had been elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1974 when he became the youngest legislator at 27 years old.
He was nominated in September 2022 to be the Dominican Republic ambassador, yet his nomination still awaits congressional confirmation.
