The vote in the Senate of the Republic is now automated. The Senate reported last week the start of the new technological platform that allows the control and monitoring of all the activities of the up to 32-member plenary in real time as part of the process of modernization and transparency.
Through the new system, the voting process is expedited, the results are transmitted instantaneously on several screens, leaving a historical and individual record of the legislator’s decisions on the bills and resolutions. This information is then available for citizens to review on the Senate’s website.
The new system incorporates a biometric record of the quorum, and manages the time and turns of the presentations.
The president of the Senate of the Republic, Eduardo Estrella (Dominicanos por el Cambio – Santiago) highlighted the transparency with which the institution is managed. Estrella thanked the senators for their receptiveness to the changes and modernization that the institution is developing.
“I congratulate and thank the entire team that has worked hard in the implementation of this Automated Voting System. The Senate of the Republic is focused on making all its actions transparent; we are going to digitalize all the files, any information that a citizen requires will only have to access this platform”, said Eduardo Estrella.
The implementation of the new voting system required the updating of the audiovisual platform and online transmission and the installation of six 86-inch TV screens to display results and follow up the activities of the plenary.
The audio-debate system was also modernized and a set of 4K high-definition robotic cameras were installed to record the activities inside the Senate hall and project images with greater clarity.
As part of the modernization, the Senate is now implementing the digitalization of all legislative information through an agreement with the General Archives of the Nation (AGN). This will make possible for citizens to access documents dating from 1930 to date online.
