PRM announces date of party convention

The Internal Elections Commission of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) said the party leaders will meet on 15 May to celebrate the XXI Ordinary National Convention to choose party authorities. At present, the two leading authorities are president Jose Ignacio Paliza and secretary, Carolina Mejia. In the Abinader administration, Paliza is the Administrative Minister of the Presidency and Mejía is the mayor of the National District.

The party is registering candidates from 7 to 21 April. Both Paliza and Mejía have expressed they seek to continue in the positions. Some 1,300 party delegates are summoned to vote for the directors. Deligne Ascención, secretary of organization for the ruling party, made the announcement. He said the delegates will vote for the president, vice-president, secretary general and deputy secretary general of the party. Ascención is the Minister of Public Works.
