
The Presidency announced the Ministry of Labor has reached an agreement for a 24% increase in wages for the construction sector. The increase will be effective 21% from 1 May and the remaining 3% as of 1 October 2022.
There are an estimated 421,873 employees registered as construction workers, including plumbers, carpenters, electricians, masons and brick layers.
President Luis Abinader made the announcement from the Ministry of Labor where he participated in a meeting with Labor Minister Luis Miguel de Camps. De Camps says this is the 14th sectoral wage increase agreed upon during the present Abinader administration.
De Camps spoke of how the construction sector is one of the pillars of economic development in every nation, especially in the Dominican Republic. He said the growth of housing solutions and the execution of large infrastructure works places the country as a leader in the region.
