The senator for Samaná, Pedro Catrain is asking the Ministry of Tourism to build a 10,000-seat amphitheater in Las Terrenas. Over the Easter holidays, thousands of domestic travelers were in Samana for the vacation time. Outdoor concerts entertained the vacationers, but photos also showed of abuses committed by the crowds attracted by the major beach concerts.
In the letter to Tourism Minister David Collado, Catrain explains that although the large influx of visitors over the Easter holidays benefited the municipality’s economy, the lack of territorial development planning produced chaos with damage to the environment due to litter and noise pollution left by the mass crowds of visitors.
Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata and La Romana have large amphitheaters for the hosting of major concerts.
