Controversy regarding named Mexican ambassador

Diario Libre is following the controversial nomination of the governor of Campeche state in Mexico, Carlos Miguel Aysa Gonzalez as Mexican ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Aysa Gonzalez describes himself as a baseball aficionado and trusts that President Alvaro Lopez Obrador will visit the Dominican Republic in his term as ambassador.

The Dominican government has already given its approval to the appointment of the Mexican politician. Aysa González was cleared for the position by the Mexican legislature foreign relations and Latin American and Caribbean committees.

In Mexico, coordinators of the parliamentary groups of the Mexican National Action (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) and Democratic Revolution (PRD) parties in the Chamber of Deputies said the appointment of Aysa González “would put at risk” the relations between both countries.

Mexican opposition members say the ambassador position was negotiated in exchange for the vote of his son, deputy Carlos Miguel Aysa Damas regarding electricity reform.
