Gateway for Caribbean food trade: DP World builds cold room at Multimodal Port Caucedo

President Luis Abinader was at the Multimodal Port Caucedo for the ceremony marking the start of construction of a temperature-controlled warehouse. Multimodal Port Caucedo is the country’s largest port. Customs Agency (DGA) director, Eduardo Sanz said during the ground-breaking that the warehouse contributes to the positioning of the Dominican Republic as the logistics hub of the region and center of trade in the Americas.

Emergent Cold Latin America (LatAM), in collaboration with DP World, is implementing the cold storage project. The company is a major provider of temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics in Peru and Ecuador. The DP World and Emergent Cold Latam partnership allows for integrating the refrigerated supply chain of Multimodal Port Caucedo customer’s while providing logistics solutions that simplify their supply chain.

The warehouse will have 6,500 square meters with controlled temperature and 8,000 multi-temperature pallet positions (frozen, refrigerated, and ambient). It will also have a 22-meter shipping area with 13 dock doors, to facilitate processes related to inspections, product preparation, and efficient movement of merchandise. It will also have an ammonia refrigeration system, LED lighting, solar energy and mobile shelving.

The refrigerated warehouse ensures accurate temperature and improves cold chain management, ensuring product integrity. It will have capacity for cold storage (0 to 6 degrees Celsius), frozen storage (-18 to -30 degrees Celsius), and flash freezing.

During the ground-breaking ceremony, Industry and Commerce Minister Víctor Bisonó said that the new investment as a leading logistics hub in the Americas region and the ideal scenario for manufacturing and logistics companies from different parts of the world to set up, operate and make investments in the nearshoring format.

Bisonó said the new facilities will boost Dominican farm exports. Multimodal Caucedo Port is already a gateway for the Caribbean food trade.

The event was attended by Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, global CEO of DP World; Neal Rider, CEO of Emergent Cold Latin America; and the CEO of DP World’s operations in the Dominican Republic, Morten Johansen.
