
Nineteen of 29 senators voted yes on Tuesday, 26 April 2022 to approve the controversial Presidency-submitted bill that removes all customs tariffs on 67 products that affect the cost of food in the Dominican Republic. The bill was sent to the Presidency for enactment.
The bill seeks to counteract external impact of the Russia and Ukraine war on the price of fuels, foodstuffs and inputs for food production. It will have a duration of six months from enactment.
The bill had already passed in the Chamber of Deputies. It was opposed by the farming sector.
