
The Dominican Republic team defeated Team USA in the second edition of the North America and Caribbean Handball Confederation (NACHC) Women’s Beach Handball Championship played in Acapulco, Mexico from 25 to 27 April 2022.
The United States is the defending team in the championship. The competition is a qualifier for the 2022 IHF Women’s Beach Handball World Championship in Greece in June and The World Games 2022 to be played in Birmingham, Alabama, USA in July 2022.
The women’s competition is played in a round-robin format. The DR team defeated the USA in penalties to advance to the event’s semifinal. The DR is 2-2. It defeated St. Kitts, but had lost to Mexico and Puerto Rico. The DR next goes against Dominica.
The women’s competition features the USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Dominica, Dominican Republic and hosts Mexico.
The top two teams in the women’s championships qualify for Greece 2022 and the champions of the tournament get a ticket to The World Games 2022. The USA is already qualified as the host of the Alabama competition.
The DR will then play in the Central American Championship set for October-November in Santa Marta, Colombia.
The DR’s men handball team finished 5th, and did not make the cut for the semifinal.
