Jose Monegro to head 2026 Sports Games Organizing Committee

President Luis Abinader named the executive editor of El Dia newspaper, Jose Monegro to preside the organizing committee for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The Games will take place in Santo Domingo. The city had last hosted the regional games in 1974. The facilities built for the 2003 Pan American Games will be used.

To the effect, Decree 201-22 also names Felipe Vicini as first vice president. Other organizing commitee members are: Antonio Acosta Corletto (president of the Dominican Olympic Committee), second vice president; José Manuel Ramos, third vice president. The Sports Minister (Francisco Camacho) is secretary general; Mercedes Canalda is the treasurer and the Minister of Public Works (Deligne Ascención) and the Mayor of the National District (Carolina Mejía) are members. Also appointed to the organizing committee are businessmen Frank Rainieri and Carlos Iglesias and lawyer Fernando Langa.

The President ordered all government entities to provide the services needed by the Organizing Committee to prepare the 2026 games.
