DR economic recovery going well

The Dominican Tax Agency (DGII) has garnered over 32 billion pesos in the first quarter of 2022, just from the nation’s manufacturing sector. This represents a nearly 12% improvement from the year before. In a recent report released by the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, it seems that beverage manufacturing was the leader in the recovery with well over one-third of the taxes coming from this sector. Oil refining, cement follow, and plastics, pharmaceuticals also contributed heavily to the success of this first quarter.

Further good news is the recovery of jobs. According to the report from the Ministry, most industries have recovered more than 100% of the pre-pandemic jobs. As reported, manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, plastics, soaps and detergents, edible oils have fully recovered the lost jobs. Manufacturing has reported, overall, 137, 777 jobs in the first quarter, about 96% of the 2020 numbers. Exports have also picked up with Haiti, the United States and Puerto Rico being the main importers of Dominican goods.
