After two and a half years of not meeting in person, the Davos, Switzerland World Economic Forum gathering took place. This year political, financial and business leaders from all around the world gathered in 23-26 May 2022, instead of the usual January, at the same ski resort Swiss town.
President Luis Abinader traveled to Davos to sit for questioning on tourism, recovery from Covid and the new challenges. On Monday and Tuesday, he also had a full agenda of meetings with key business leaders from around the world.
He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez, and by the director of the National Competitiveness Council, Peter Prazmowski. Jose Sanchez-Fung, permanent representative of the World Trade Organization was also part of the Dominican delegation to the event.
In his participation in a panel during the World Economic Forum, President Luis Abinader spoke about actions taken by the government for a prompt recovery after the Covid-19 closed Dominican airports from March through July 2020.
What is most interesting, though, regarding President Abinader participation in the World Economic Forum were the side meetings.

Marcelo Claure, president and CEO of Claure Capital. Claure Capital is described as a newly founded multi-billion-dollar global investment firm focused on public and private companies in technology, media, telecommunications, crypto, sports, real estate and other high-growth sectors.
Bob Sternfels, Global Managing Partner of McKinsey & Company. McKinsey is a long-standing global management consulting firm and among the world’s three largest strategy consulting firms by revenue.
Donnie King, CEO, Tyson Food Inc. Tyson Food is an American multinational corporation, based in Springdale, Arkansas, regarded as the world’s second-largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork after the Brazilian firm, JBS S.A.. Tyson Food annually exports the largest percentage of beef out of the United States.
Vicki Hollub, President and Chief Executive Officer of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. Occidental Petroleum Corporation (Oxy), is a major American petroleum-producing company. The company is focused on carbon management and carbon capture projects to limit global warming. The company’s Oxy Low Carbon Ventures finds profitable ways to capture C02 to use or make products from it, including generating electricity using C02.
Vincent Roche, President and Chief Executive Officer of Analog Devices Inc. Analog Devices is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of a broad portfolio of high performance analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal processing (DSP) integrated circuits (ICs) used in virtually all types of electronic equipment.
Albert Bourla, Chief Executive Officer of Pfizer Inc., the American pharmaceutical company.
Revathi Advaithi, Chief Executive Officer CEO of Flex Ltd, an American Singaporean-domiciled multinational electronics contract manufacturer. It is the third largest global electronics manufacturing services, original design manufacturer company by revenue, behind only Pegatron for what concerns original equipment manufacturers.
Benoit Potier, President Chief Executive Officer CEO of Air Liquide SA, a global leader in industry decarbonization. The company is a world leader in gases, technologies and services for Industry and Health, Air Liquide started operating in the Dominican Republic in 2008 and is the only supplier of locally sourced oxygen, the main supplier of liquid nitrogen and the only producer of acetylene in the Caribbean region. The company has established itselfs as a leader in the supply of industrial and medicinal gases.
Antonio Neri, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
On Monday evening, Abinader participated in the dinner hosted by Klaus Martin Schwab, to heads of state and government, international organizations and special guests. Martin Schwab is a German economist and businessman, known mainly for being the founder of the World Economic Forum.
