When it initiates flights at the end of July 2022, Dominican travelers will get a direct connection to El Salvador for the first time. Arajet has plans for direct flights so that people from El Salvador can use Santo Domingo as a connecting point to other destinations in the Caribbean, North America and South America. Arajet is based at the Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo.
The company says that around 5,000 passengers already use connecting flights to travel between El Salvador and Santo Domingo. The number of travelers is expected to increase two or three times in the first year once there is a direct flight.
The company has informed that it will operate a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX-8s. It already has two: one named Pico Duarte and the other Valle Nuevo. For the acquisition of the airplanes, it is backed by the investment firms: Griffin Capital Management and Bain Capital, foreign companies that would be investing up to 75% of the resources for Arajet to be able to operate.
