Presidency announces the winners of the tender to build two 400 MW natural gas plants in the northwest

The Presidency announced that Haina Investment Corporation and Manzanillo Energy are the two winners of the two natural gas plants tender. The natural gas plants will be built in Manzanillo on the northwest. At present, natural gas plants are located on the southcentral coast of the country.

The constructions call for a 400 megawatt natural gas plant and a natural gas terminal. Haina Investment Corporation offered 8.84 cents per dollar per kilowatt hour for its 400 MW plant. Manzanillo Energy will build its 400 megawatt natural gas plant offering a price of 5.82 cents per dollar per kilowatt hour.

The plants call for an investment of US$1.7 billion. The contract stipulates construction needs to start in six months and the plants in operation in three years and a half.

President Abinader says that the 800 megawatts of the two plants of Manzanillo should offer power at a lower cost than the coal-fired Punta Catalina Thermoelectric built by the Dominican government from 2016 to 2020.
