President Luis Abinader inaugurated yesterday in Hato Mayor the “Plan for the Transformation of the Energy Matrix of the Dairy Sector” with an investment of RD$200 million. Solar energy will power 30 dairy collection centers once the plan is fully implemented.
Participating in Milk Day in Hato Mayor, a dairy-producing province, President Abinader explained the transformation of the dairy sector energy matrix is a game-changing plan.
“What is important is the message that we are willing to work together and that even if problems arise, we will face them and solve them,” President Abinader told the cattle ranchers.
He said dairy producers are impacted by external shocks that the government seeks to mitigate with the solar plan and other programs.
The solar energy plan has the backing of the government entities Feda, the National Energy Commission, the Superintendence of Electricity, the ministries of Agriculture, Energy and Conaleche.
To install the photovoltaic systems, the livestock associations and Feda will choose the suppliers who will receive non-refundable financing of RD$400 thousand, equivalent to 25% of the total cost. The Livestock division of the Ministry of Agriculture is contributing another RD$200,000 and Conaleche, the remainder.
The executive director of Feda, Hecmilio Galván Cruz, explained that by directly benefiting 100 associations, the project will also benefit thousands of workers and the 100 communities impacted with job security.
