The low cost carrier Frontier is preparing to operate the Tampa/Santo Domingo/Tampa and Tampa/Punta Cana/Tampa routes in June. This would be the first airline to offer a direct connection to Tampa from Dominican airports.
The carrier is already authorized to fly passengers, cargo and mail on 29 routes from the United States to the Dominican Republic.
The airline has plans to start the new routes on 30 June 2022 using an Airbus A320 with capacity for 186 passengers. The flight would start with a frequency of two flights per week on Thursdays and Sundays for the Tampa (TPA)/Santo Domingo (SDQ) route. The Tampa (TPA)/Punta Cana (PUJ) route would also start on the same 30 June with a frequency of one flight per week, on Saturdays.
The airline expects to transport approximately 10,230 passengers on the Tampa/Santo Domingo route from June to December 2022. Meanwhile, for the Tampa/Punta Cana route, traffic is estimated at 2,232 passengers during the same period.
