NBA school in DR

The United States’ National Basketball Association (NBA) and Mamsa Sports Performance, an organization focused on delivering high-level sports performance, announced on 7 June 2022 a multiyear partnership to launch the first NBA Basketball School in the Dominican Republic.

The NBA Basketball School activities begin with three local camps this summer 2022 for boys and girls ages 6-18, before expanding in 2023 to a year-round program featuring camps and clinics that will provide young athletes with on-court training, skill development and basketball education.
Registration for the first camp, which will be held at Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo over the course of three weeks (July 4-8, 11-15 and 18-22), is open now online at dr.nbabasketballschool.com

NBA Basketball School is a network of tuition-based basketball development programs open to boys and girls ages 6-18 from outside the United States. The Dominican Republic is the fifth country in Latin America to launch or announce plans to open an NBA Basketball School, joining Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay.

“Our top priority is creating opportunities for boys and girls throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to learn the fundamentals and values of the game through programs like NBA Basketball School,” said NBA Latin America Senior Vice President and Managing Director Arnon de Mello. “We’re excited to partner with Mamsa Sports Performance to expand our youth basketball development efforts in the Dominican Republic and provide another platform for boys and girls across the country to play the game.”

“The NBA has displayed an ongoing commitment to growing the game in the Dominican Republic,” said Mamsa Sports Performance Program Director Gabriel Garrido. “We look forward to partnering with the league and building on their efforts with the launch of the first NBA Basketball School in the country. With our first camp approaching in July, we hope to continue offering boys and girls with the tools and resources to develop as players and leaders.”

The NBA Basketball School curriculum, which is designed to develop players and provide parents, coaches and organizations with a better understanding of the process of improvement, has been developed by the NBA’s International Basketball Operations department in consultation with current and former NBA coaches, players and player development specialists.

Since 2017, NBA Basketball Schools have been launched or announced in Argentina, Brazil, China, Greece, India, Italy, Kuwait, Lithuania, Mexico, Spain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Uruguay.
