
President Luis Abinader, First Lady Raquel Arbaje and Vice President Raquel Peña attended the funeral activities for the late Environment Minister Orlando Jorge Mera at the Presidential Palace. A childhood friend, Miguel Cruz de la Mota, confessed to having murdered the minister in his office at the Ministry of Environment.
Jorge Mera’s wife, Patricia Villegas, is the Dominican ambassador in Brazil. She flew in with their daughter, Patricia Victoria, a nun who serves in a Brazilian congregation. Jorge Mera is also survived by his son, ruling party deputy Orlando Jorge Villegas.
The funeral wakes also showed the intense sorrow of Jorge Mera’s sister, Dilia Leticia Jorge Mera, known to have been very close to Orlando Jorge Mera. Dilia Leticia Jorge Mera is deputy vice president of Innovation, Transparency and Attention to Citizens at the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency.
