Gerdau Metaldom announced on Sunday, 12 June 2022 the start of the dismantling of the manufacturing plant on the Malecón. The company announced that the demolition will take 21 months and is part of the metalworks sustainability plan.
“We are evaluating different project options, from an in-house development or one to be carried out by a third party. The most important thing is that the city gain from this space and that it can be used for the good of the community, in line with the best environmental practices,” said the company in a statement sent to the media. The capital city government is investing in the renovating of the Malecón boulevard that is directly to the south of the Metaldom location.
The company assured that the work will be carried out during working hours, the work will handle decibels below the permitted levels and no explosives will be used in the dismantling.
Gerdau Metaldom is the Dominican Republic’s leading producer of finished steel products, with an installed capacity of more than one million tons per year.
The company has a production plant in the Duarte Industrial Park in Santo Domingo and distribution centers in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.
