A group of Dominican physicians and businesspeople are the promoters of an innovative medical project to go up in La Vega, Listin Diario reports. The initiative brings a new focus on three highly sensitive medical areas in the Dominican Republic — mental health, geriatrics and substance abuse (detox).
The Specialized Treatment Center (Cetrate), with a capacity of 250 beds and 94 consulting rooms, is scheduled to begin construction in the next few weeks, in an area of 202,000 square meters for development and expansion off the Duarte Highway, in El Pinito, La Vega. The center is 20 minutes from the Cibao International Airport (STI), Santiago’s international airport.
The health center is a US$120 million investment and includes a 115-room hotel, a university city and a residence for senior citizens. The center is scheduled to open in 2025.
Services are targeted at the population of 14 provinces in the northern region of the country and those seeking the lower costs and advantages of health tourism.
Dr. Rafael Estévez Reyes and the businessman Guillermo Molina made the announcement in a visit to Listin Diario executive editor, Miguel Franjul.
