
Dominican psychologists and psychiatrists say that video game addiction is on the rise, affecting primarily youths and young adults. Diario Libre reports that the Dominican Republic does not have official statistics on the modern-day addiction. The specialists say they are seeing hundreds of cases where excessive use of the recreational practice is deteriorating the mental health of children, teenagers and adults.
Rehabilitation and detoxification centers operating in the Dominican Republic, such as Cainna CSP and Clínica Clarium by Fénix, receive between two to three minors with video game addiction problems every day.
The psychiatrist Victor Figueroa understands that the video game disorder has been spreading worldwide affecting mainly children and young people, but that adults are also suffering the addiction.
