Julissa Cespedes denounces employee scam at Ministry of Education

Reporte Especial con Julissa Céspedes aired on CDN (Channel 37) on Monday, 27 June 2022 presented a fraudulent scheme operating at the Ministry of Education. Three persons came forward to say their identities were being used by a person of influence. They were fictitiously employed at the Ministry of Education, and the scammer then collected their wages. Occasionally they received around 10% of the wage. The wages were for RD$31,900.

When interviewed for the report, the director of human resources of the Ministry of Education, Dilia Ubiera denied the scam was possible due to the control procedures in place at the Ministry of Education. The scheme called for the appointment of the persons and then these would open bank accounts in their names, but the scammer retained the bank card and had full access to the funds deposited in the account.

The scam is similar to several investigated by the Attorney General Office. State prosecutors identified a similar scam to borrow other persons identity to employ these and keep the wages at the former Touristic Police (Cestur) and child care (Conani) agencies, among other government institutions during the Medina administration.
