Motorcyclists are involved in seven of every 10 road accidents, according to statistics of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant). Mélido Agramonte, director of road safety at Intrant told Listin Diario that from 2016 to 2020, 1,498 motorcyclists had died in road accidents, or 14.6% per 100,000 inhabitants.
Agramonte highlighted that 70% of the people who perish in traffic accidents on motorcycles are between 15 and 39 years of age.
Intrant is involved in a registration process to enforce that motorcyclists use protective helmets for road safety.
