President Luis Abinader met on Monday, 4 July 2022 with the members of the Senate-Chamber of Deputies committee that is reviewing the extinction of domain bill that will be presented to the floor of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The bill seeks to be an effective measure to seize property result of drug trafficking, government corruption, organized crime and money laundering. The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco told the press that experts from the US Embassy have consulted with the legislators on key issues.
As reported, legislators of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) protested that the committee had excluded the article that would include tax evasion in the expedited prosecution bill. The PLD legislators say this would be away to prosecute personal fortunes deposited in offshore destinations.
