Montecristi province in the northwest is home to the largest aloe vera plantation in the world, reports Diario Libre. The newspaper feature looks into the Universal Aloe mega farm in El Pocito, Guayubín municipality. The company produces 10,000 gallons of liquid aloe gel a day.
Diario Libre reports that Universal Aloe S.A.S. has planted 5,000 acres (about 20 million square meters) for export to 152 countries, mostly in Europe and Asia.
The gel is pasteurized and packaged in 355-gallon bags and transported to the Caucedo Port in Santo Domingo for export to Holland, where the global distribution center is located.
