806 packages of suspected cocaine seized off San Pedro de Macorís

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) reported the seizing of 806 packages off shores of San Pedro de Macorís in the southeast. The suspected cocaine packages were confiscated in an air, sea and land interdiction operation together with the Navy, Air Force, state intelligence agencies and prosecutors.

The authorities activated the tactical and reaction teams after receiving an alert from intelligence agencies. They undertook a tracking and pursuit operation against several individuals aboard a speedboat.

After several hours of the operation, the naval and air units managed to intercept, several nautical miles south of the coasts of San Pedro de Macoris, the 27 feet long boat. Three Dominicans were arrested and 28 bales containing the 806 packages of the substance presumed to be cocaine. The speedboat would have arrived from South America.

The National Drug Control Agency reports seizing 19,747 kilograms (19.7 tons) of different drugs this year.

The 806 packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the exact type and weight of the substance.
