This week, from today until next Sunday (17 July 2022), you can take part in the Chocolate Festival at Agora Mall in Santo Domingo. There will be talks, tours and, of course, lots of chocolate.
The Dominican Republic exports about 70,000 tons of cacao annually, with some 45% of this organic cacao. The DR is the world leader in organic cacao.
Dominican artisan-produced chocolate is currently at a peak, and this festival provides the opportunity to prove it.
Two chocolate chefs will show off at the festival under the banner of Quisqueya Chocolates. Their products feature flavors of chocolate laced with coffee, cashews, and peanuts.
The festival is organized under the aegis of the United States Department of Agriculture through the Export Quality program. The program has helped install a Cacao Laboratory at the Ministry of Agriculture. The festival is also backed by the Dominican Environmental Consortium and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Companies (Mypimes).
