
The Dominican Republic placed in the top 15 in the world in the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022. The Dominican under 17 years team defeated Japan to place 13th of 32 countries in the FIBA championship. The USA won its 16th edition of the tournament.
The results reflect the advances and gains in the sport in the Dominican Republic. Recently, the NBA league of the United States opened its first NBA Academy in Santo Domingo.
The final standings of the U17 tournament were: USA, Spain, France, Lithuania, Serbia, Australia, Slovenia, Poland, Canada, Egypt, Argentina, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, Japan and Mali.
