Millions fly here after the pandemic

In the first six months of 2022, there have been more than seven million passengers going through Dominican airports, according to statistics from the Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC). Every month a new record in arrivals seems to be broken.

In fact, the total of arrivals is closer to eight million passengers. Just in the past month of June 2022, over 1.3 million passengers used the airports. At current rates, it is expected that the DR will have serviced over 15 million passengers, all told, in 2022.

The passengers arrive and depart from Punta Cana, the busiest airport in the country, Las Americas in Santo Domingo, Cibao in Santiago, Puerto Plata’s Gregorio Luperon, Samana’s El Catey, La Romana’s Casa de Campo, and La Isabela in North Santo Domingo.

Officials from the Civil Aviation Institute stress the existence of an “open skies” policy that makes the country more competitive for Dominican service providers.
