In its 27 July 2022 issue, Diario Libre reports that the beneficiaries of indemnities paid by the Ministry of Environment to farmers and land owners in the Valle Nuevo protected area do not coincide with the census carried out in 2016. Environmental reporter Marvin Cid writes that the government decision favoring the farmers in the protected area could motivate people to violate the laws and then get paid for the illegal actions.
Diario Libre reports that on 15 July 2022, the Ministry of Environment paid RD$124 million to 127 farm producers as part of the Valle Nuevo Rescue Plan, but the list of beneficiaries does not match the census made in 2016, which gave rise to the compensation. The newspaper report establishes that of the 127 beneficiaries, 40%, or 56, do not appear by name or ID (cédula) in the 2016 census.
