Businessman says his cash is legit

A businessman identified as Robert Henriquez visited El Nuevo Diario newspaper to protest about a news story based on information released by the Specialized Border Security Service (Cesfront) on his multiple arrests for carrying cash on the border. He denied he had entered the country with US$126,900 and RD$400,000 without making customs payments on the border with Dajabón and Oanaminthe in Haiti. He defended his holding the cash saying he presented to the authorities the bills that justify the money he would deposit in a Dominican bank.

Henriquez says his business employs 400 persons. He said he did not enter and leave Haiti as reported and that he carries out all his transactions in the Dominican Republic.

He disputed information released on Friday, 20 July by the Cesfront authorities. The El Nuevo Diario news story does share the name of his business.

In the Dominican Republic most people now carry out bank transfers for high sums of money due to the security risks of circulating with cash.
