Quick recovery for patients affected with monkeypox

Ministry of Public Health authorities say that with the recovery of the second and third cases of monkeypox under care of physicians at the San Isidro Air Force hospital, no other cases of the new disease have been reported.

The Public Health authorities announced on Wednesday, 27 July 2022 that the two patients affected by monkeypox who were receiving treatment at the Ramon de Lara Military Hospital were discharged on Tuesday, 26 July 2022.

The director of the Air Force base hospital, Dr. José Richardson said both patients, a 51-year-old female who tested positive on 1 July and a 19-year old man who had tested positive on 5 July, have fully recovered.

Infectologist Joel Ureña said that over the past 96 hours the patients did not present active lesions and the lesions had completed the crusting phase.

As the patients did not present any situation that warranted extending the observation period, they were discharged on Tuesday, 26 July 2022, with a continuous clinical evaluation in the hospital’s infectious diseases department, for a timely follow-up and a possible return to work.

Deputy Minister of Collective Health Eladio Pérez says five other suspected cases have tested negative.
