
The case for corruption and asset laundering against former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez opened on Friday, 12 August 2022. The case is known as the Medusa case. Third Court of Instruction of the National District judge Amauri Martínez granted defense lawyers additional months to study the extensive 12,000-page file.
Judge Amauri Martínez accepted the request of the defense of the accused to extend the deadline for the pretrial hearings to be able to study the file and present their material in the preliminary hearing of the case.
The start of the preliminary hearing of the case is now rescheduled for 19 December 2022.
The case is in the pretrial stage of the criminal prosecution. The case is regarded as the most complex corruption case . 41 persons have been accused by the Anti-Corruption Prosecution Agency (Pepca) and another 22 companies and their executives face charges.
In the pretrial stage, the prosecution argues the accusations and the judge needs to determine if there is sufficient merit to send the accused to the trial phase.

The in-person hearings are programmed for the Court of Appeals of the Civil and Commercial Chamber in the Palace of Justice of the Centro de los Heroes. Coverage by a limited number of media is allowed.
