Mariposas de Acero at the National Theater

Waddys Jaquez’s creation, the Mariposas de Acero performed to three sell out crowds at the Carlos Piantini hall of the National Theater. Now the Dominican musical Mariposas de Acero will return to the National Theater for four more performances. These are set for 29, 30 September and 1 and 2 October 2022.

The musical is a modern (rap and musical fusions) Broadway-like version of the life of the four Mirabal sisters – Patria, Minerva, Maria Teresa and survivor Adela (Dedé) who opposed the Trujillo dictatorship and were involved in covert activities against the regime. Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa were assassinated on 25 November 1960.

The international day for eliminating violence against women celebrates the courage of women on 25 November every year.

Mariposas de Acero is produced by Waddys Jaquez and Pablo Garcia. The main roles are by Nashla Bogaert (Minerva), Hony Estrella (Patria), Coral González (María Teresa); Adalgisa Pantaleón (Dedé Mirabal); Diana Ramos (Dedé Mirabal young) and Frank Ceara (Trujillo).

Tickets are for sale at the National Theater box office and online at Uepa Tickets.

The musical is scheduled for two performances at the Gran Teatro del Cibao on 2 and 3 September.
