Victor Estrella and Peter Bertran advance in doubles in RD Open

42-year old Victor Estrella, the best-ranked Dominican tennis player of all time (ATP 43rd in 2015), teamed up with 26-year old Peter Bertran (ATP ranking in singles 540) to make the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles in the DR Open taking place at the Santo Domingo Tennis Club (La Bocha). The Dominicans defeated Purav Raja and Divij Sharan from India. The scores were 6-7, 7-6 and 10-6.

Victor Estrella had retired from professional tennis playing in 2019. The event marks his return to playing in the professional tennis league.

According to his biography in Wikipedia, in 2014, Estrella became the first Dominican to reach the top 100 in the ATP rankings. He also became the first Dominican player to reach the semifinals in an ATP 250 tournament in Bogota. In 2015, he became the first tennis player from his country to participate in all four Grand Slams, playing in the Australian Open. In February 2015, he won his first career ATP title at the Ecuador Open, becoming the oldest first-time ATP tour winner in the Open Era.

Estrella Burgos reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 43, achieved on 13 July 2015. He achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 135 on the same date.

The tennis courts of the Santo Domingo (La Bocha) Tennis Club are hosting competitors from around the world coming for the Santo Domingo Open presented by Milex. The event is part of the Association of Tennis Professional Players (ATP) Challenger Tour and is set for 15 to 21 August 2022. The tournament has a cash prize of U$160,000.

Six of the registered players are ranked in the top 100 of the Association of Tennis Professional Players (ATP). These are Hugo Dellien (70), Tomas Etcheverry (72), Federico Coria (73), Roberto Carballes Baena (86), Pedro Cachín (90) and Daniel Galán (99).
