DNCD catches 414 packages load of cocaine off Pedernales coast

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) seized a load of 414 packages presumably of cocaine off the coast of Pedernales in the southwest on Sunday, 21 August 2022.

The operation was carried out with the support of the Dominican navy and air force, state intelligence agencies and under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The authorities say the operation lasted 20 hours before the capture of the speedboat boat (25 feet long with two outboard motors of 75 and 40 horsepower each) and three men – two Dominicans and one Colombian.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are deepening the investigation and are trying to establish if the seizure is related to other recent cases, reports the DNCD in a press release. The DNCD explains speedboats bring drugs from South America for eventual trafficking to key consumer markets.

The DNCD highlights this is the latest of major blows to drug trafficking during August 2022. The authorities have seized 2,441 kilograms (2.4 tons) of cocaine and arrested 17 people — Colombians, Venezuelans and Dominicans.
