DR defeats Costa Rica in start of Pan Am Volleyball Cup

Defending champions, the Dominican senior volleyball team had no mercy for the national women’s team of Costa Rica, and defeated the team 3-0 (25-9, 25-8 and 25-9) on Sunday, 21 August 2022 at the start of the 19th Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup, taking place in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The Dominican woman’s team had won the 2021 edition held in Santo Domingo. The DR is competing against Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and the United States, Colombia and Peru in the event.

The teams are divided into two groups of five, with group A made up of Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Peru, Puerto Rico and the United States and group B of Canada, Colombia, Cuba, host Mexico and Nicaragua.

In the history of the event, the United States has won seven times, followed by the Dominican Republic with five titles, Cuba with four and Brazil with three.

The winners get slots to the Central American and Caribbean Games and the Pan Am Games in Chile.
