
The members of the regional branch of the Criminal Investigation Division (Dicrim) in East Santo Domingo served arrest warrants on two of the participants in the May 2022 robbery of an armored car that was in the parking lot of a propane gas station in Los Mameyes. Also arrested was a person found in one of the houses that was searched, and which contained evidence of the crime.
According to newspaper accounts of the robbery, the thieves made away with RD$9.5 million in cash. The whole event was caught on CCTV and quickly became viral on different media platforms.
The two men served with arrest warrants are middle aged (52 and 47) while the fellow arrested at the house was just 22. Together with the money taken, the thieves also took two pistols from the guards.
The story related by one of the men captured is that they received RD$400,000 each for the job, and they took the loot to Boca Chica where it was delivered to a man and a woman. In the search of the residence, police found two pistols, tactical vests, gloves, 9mm ammunition, several license plates, passports, lots of money and gold jewellery.
