Finjus pinpoints urgent legislation for Congress to act

The Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus), a private sector-backed watchdog operation, has delivered a list of legislation that Congress needs to pass, sooner rather than later. Finjus executive vice-president, Servio Tulio Castaños Guzman hand delivered the document to Alfredo Pacheco, the president of the Chamber of Deputies.

The very long list of legislative proposals includes reforms to the Criminal and Civil codes, changes to the law on human trafficking, the law on cybercrimes, and an initiative for the protection of witnesses and victims. There are requests for changes to the laws that cover contracts, notary publics, gender violence, and political parties.

Finjus calls for renewed efforts to pass pending legislation such as the law on territorial organization, which would include what some countries call zoning or the use of the land.

Meanwhile, civic society prime watchdog organization, Participación Ciudadana urges the government to not delay the amendments to the electoral organization and political party laws in time for these to be implemented in the May 2024 general elections.
