
The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office of this province dealt a blow to arms trafficking with a transnational investigation that led to the arrest of two people, firearms and cash on Thursday, 25 August 2022 – the KAF Operation.
A press release from the DNCD explains the raids took place after several months of investigations with the cooperation of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The actions led to the seizure of RD$4,052,585 and US$17,420.
Gregory Alberto Diplán Guichardo and Juan Miguel Almonte Padilla (Colita) were arrested.
Ten prosecutors, headed by the head of the Santiago office, Osvaldo Bonilla, and agents of the DNCD’s Tactical Directorate of Sensitive Investigations (DITIS) participated in the KAF Operation.
The authorities carried out raids in Cristo Rey, in the National District; La Villa Olímpica, Los Frailes, in Santo Domingo, and in Licey al Medio, Santiago and Borojoy, Espaillat.
The prosecutors raided the premises of the Quisqueya Shipping company, located on Marginal Las Américas street, in the Los Frailes sector in eastern Santo Domingo.
The operations included the seizure of six 5.56 x 45 caliber Promag rifles, and nine magazines and 2,476 capsules. Also, two drum-type 9mm pistol magazines and one 9mm pistol magazine with a capacity for 31 capsules, and 6,689 9mm caliber capsules.
In Santiago alone, 2,650 9mm. cal. capsules were seized, 2,476 cal. 5.56mm, 700 cal. 25mm, 343 cal. 380mm, 213 cal. 38mm, 36 cal. 40mm, 66 cal. 12mm, 135 cal. 357mm, 27 cal. 22mm, 5 cal. 44mm. and 145 cal. 7.62mm.
This is the second contraband of firearms from the United States seized in Santiago. Early in the month a shipment of 14 Glock pistols were seized in a shipment of clothing and house appliances.
In the press release on the KAF Operation, the president of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), Vice Admiral Jose Manuel Cabrera Ulloa highlights the new strategic vision of the agency to combat organized crime now that the DNCD is working with the Attorney General Office under Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito.
