President visits San Juan de la Maguana; announces RD$687 million for farm producers

President Luis Abinader was in San Juan de la Maguana in the southwest on Sunday, 28 August 2022 and announced RD$687 million is being made available to help small and medium farm producers. The plan is to expand and diversify the productive and economic matrix of the southern region.

The Presidency announced government support to small and medium-sized fishery, poultry, beekeeping, sheep and goat projects, confectionery and bakery businesses.

He announced funds are available for the construction of a domestic airport in San Juan, to support farm fumigation. He said the airport construction would begin in the first quarter of 2023. A runway, general aviation and agricultural terminals will be built, and barracks for the Dominican Republic Air Force.

He also informed that a campus of the Higher Institute of Agriculture (ISA) will be installed in Bohechío, for the academic preparation of the youths of the region.

The President was present for the signing of agreements by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Bank and PepsiCo, as well as between the ISA University and the Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID) with representatives of the San Juan de la Maguana Development Plan Council.
