Recent comments on the Felix Alburquerque Compres killing of sports commentator Manuel Taveras Duncan

Several influential news commentators have added their point of view as to what happened on the tragic evening of 25 August 2022 when sports commentator Manuel Taveras Duncan was murdered. The former president of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) Felix Alburquerque Compres the next day admitted to the murder after a video showing the killing circulated extensively on social media. Right after the killing, the Police arrested the seven persons at the shop, not so Alburquerque Compres who only after the video circulated identifying him, turned himself in.

Carlos Rubio explains where the retired general had been before stopping at the hotdog stand on the fatal evening. He speculates on what happened that evening and says there is sufficient evidence for the general to be tried for assassination. The maximum sentence for assassination is 30 years in jail.

Marino Zapete shares the concern of the sister of the deceased Manuel Taveras Duncan, Esther Taveras Duncan, who criticized that the preliminary file for the pretrial hearing has categorized the case as a homicide and not an assassination. The sister has requested that the Attorney General Office appoint an independent prosecutor to head the case, criticizing that National District prosecutor, Rosalba Ramos handle the case.

Sergio Carlo of AntiNoti urges the end to impunity in his editorial on the killing.

News commentator Yovanny Diaz looks into the fatal incident from a lawyer’s perspective.
