
After several postponements, the judge of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District ordered on Monday, 29 August 2022 18 months pre-trial custody for 11 of the 21 accused in Operation Cattleya, an alleged criminal network dedicated to sexual exploitation. Seven of the accused were allowed to post bail.
The case was declared complex and lawyers given until 29 November 2022 to study the case before the pre-trial hearing.
The Public Prosecutors Office says that the rescued 80 women were being sexually exploited and had to pay US$3,000 to US$4,000 to get their passports back from the network that had brought them to the DR from Colombia and Venezuela.
