Covid-19 on the decline; dengue cases on the rise

While Covid-19 cases are hovering around 7% positivity and dropping, dengue cases are on the rise and there is an outbreak. Summer usually brings the rains that increase the mosquitos that spread dengue.

The Ministry of Public Health reports 4,347 dengue cases so far this year. There have been 18 deaths. As of 30 August 2022, eight children were interned in the dengue unit at the Robert Reid Children’s Hospital in Santo Domingo.

The Ministry of Public Health says that 216 of cases were reported for week #30 of the year. So far this year there have been 3,574 persons hospitalized for the disease, compared to 898 for the same period in 2021, a 295% increase.

The Ministry of Public Health says that the most cases were reported in Santiago, with 62 cases, Santo Domingo 31, Hato Mayor 18; Azua 17 cases and National District, 14.
