President Luis Abinader attended the start of operations to clean up of two of the many tributaries of the Ozama and Isabela rivers, the Girasoles and Los Peralejos streams. The cleaning of these waters will benefit tens of thousands of residents, improve the runoff of rainwater and contribute to the health and cleanliness of the waters.
The Water and Sewer Corporation of Santo Domingo (CAASD) is in charge of the project to improve the very complex system of streams and creeks in the Greater Santo Domingo area. So far, streams such as the Guajimia and the Tiradentes have been cleaned up, at least partially, and the work continues on the waters of Arroyo Hondo and Los Jardines.
The current project will place large cement pipes over some three and a half kilometers in the case of Girasoles and another kilometer and a half in the case of the Los Peralejos. Just this part of the program will cost a bit more than RD$1.2 billion.
