Falcondo to produce here nickel for electric vehicles

Falconbridge Dominicana (Falcondo) announced new investments are planned to produce nickel for electric vehicle batteries in the Dominican Republic.

The company plans to invest over US$150 million in the new venture. The plan is to extract nickel for batteries using a byproduct of the Falcondo nickel mine. The process requires less energy, the company president Ionnis Moustafis said when speaking during an event organized by the Dominican Republic Association of Industries (AIRD).

Moustafis says the project will put the Dominican Republic on the map of countries helping to save the planet through the green revolution in electromobility.

The project is expected to create 500-800 jobs.
