More criticism to lax military controls for transfers of Haitian undocumented to Dominican major cities

Chamber of Deputies member Amado Antonio Diaz Jimenez (PRM-Santiago Rodriguez) criticized Dominican military, saying the soldiers stationed in the border provinces are unworthy and unpatriotic. Diaz Jimenez represents the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in Santiago Rodriguez province.

Diaz Jimenez said many military take advantage of their posts to profit from allowing Haitians to circulate freely on their way to major Dominican cities, as reported in Hoy. Santiago Rodríguez is regarded as a border province. Buses and vehicles transiting in border provinces need to stop at military checkpoints.

Diaz Jimenez said that the construction of the stretches of border wall, started in the past government and continued in the present Abinader administration, are but good intentions to control trafficking at the border. He expects the construction of the stretches of border wall will only result in the increase in the price of the tolls demanded by the military that control transit from Haiti to Dominican cities.

According to Diaz Jimenez, the Haitian national who is willing to pay the toll faces no obstacles to entering the Dominican Republic. “The Dominican guards are unworthy; they are unpatriotic, and what they go to the border is to enrich themselves,” he said speaking at a Chamber of Deputies session.
