Major fire in Colonial City

Reportedly a short circuit in a home led to a major fire in the Colonial City.

General José Luis Frómeta Herasme, chief of the Fire Department, says the prompt arrival of the fire units to the reported location in the Colonial City at around 7pm on Tuesday, 6 September 2022 avoided the fire from spreading. Reports are that the fire started due to a short circuit of a TV in one of the dwellings of the condominium located at Hostos and Jose Gabriel Garcia street.

The blaze filled the skies with an intense plastic smell.

The firemen say the resident of the house where the fire began, José Antonio Morel, suffered a slight blow to the head, but otherwise, no one was injured. The fire chief says an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Morel told Diario Libre that the fire started when his TV exploded.
