Ministry of the Environment sets rules for forestry

Minister of the Environment Miguel Ceara Hatton has announced regulations to attempt to curtail illegal logging and stimulate more sustainable uses Dominican forests.

Previously, the ministry under the new leadership of Ceara Hatton had suspended all logging in the country. A more recent resolution, nevertheless, established strict controls over logging operations and incorporates the use of QR codes to substitute the current paperwork or bill of lading.

According to the statement by the minister, the enforcement of the new rules will be supervised by the National Environmental Protection Service (Senpa), but will rest on the collaboration of communities and provincial leaders as well as the ministry’s technicians.
